The Hardest Regrets

What you say or do can never be taken back. When you let that sink in, you let the emotion of each word or action you regret settle. I recently heard a character from a show say “It’s funny how people say sorry after the damage is done.” How can the word sorry ever negate the pain we inflict. It can’t, only growth from that moment and the person we were in it can offer the type of absolution we seek.

No one ever has to forgive anything we say or do to them, so on the chance that they do, I believe it is our duty to be 10x better than what they or we can even imagine. And if we’re not ready to be that, we must accept that for their health and ours, being in their life isn’t a practical option for today. Life is precious, and I wonder if offering people countless chances to change on our time only prolongs the change we seek. Letting go offers the opportunity to find each other once again, and can be more promising than the never-ending carousel ride we may be on.
